Got a big day on today. My daughter has an appt for an orthodontic screening for braces. I’m excited because her teeth are a mess and it impacts hugely on her self esteem.
She lost her first two bottom front teeth when she was just 4yo. There wasn’t any damage to the teeth, they were fine and healthy; she simply started losing them at a very early age.
At the time the dentist didn’t think the new one’s would come through for quite a while. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, she had new teeth showing within weeks. Due to her age and small size her jaw wasn’t developed and at a size that could comfortably hold the larger teeth as they came through.
The thought of her getting braces in itself doesn’t worry me. Been there and done that myself. What I do get jitters about is the possibility of her needing around 8 teeth removed (4 of them being impacted wisdom teeth). If I had my way they will simply knock her out and take all 8 out at once and get it over and done with. She suffers from anxiety disorder (amongst other things) and I dont see local anesthetic cutting it in this instance where tooth extraction is concerned. If she is conscious, they are going to have problems.
Anyhow, lets hope today is the start of a new journey for her full of future bright smiles!
